The European Payments Initiative received key support this week by adding five Belgian Banks to its list.
The EPI is a bank initiative to compete with credit card companies such as Capital One, Visa, and Mastercard, all United States-based corporations.
The five banks that are joining are Argenta, Bank Van Breda, Beobank, Crelan, and VDK Bank. In a joint statement, the banks stated they will launch EPI's digital wallet Wero in early 2026.
The key countries that have adopted the EPI model are France, Germany, and Belgium. However, the initiative has also lost bank members as well.
