JPMorganChase Named Leading Bank for AI Innovation

JPMorganChase has once again secured the top position in the fourth edition of the Evident AI Index, marking its fourth consecutive year as the global leader in AI among major banks.

The bank ranked first across three of the index’s four pillars of innovation, leadership, and transparency, while Capital One retained its lead in the talent category.

Although both banks improved their scores year-on-year, the gap between them has narrowed significantly, halving compared with 2024.

JPMorganChase’s biggest gains came in leadership, where it became the first bank to achieve a perfect score, reflecting its ability to catalogue AI use cases, assess their financial impact, and communicate their deployment in detail.

The bank also rose to first place in Research & Patents and Responsible AI (RAI) talent, driven by its growing patent portfolio and expertise in explainable AI.

The bank’s commitment to measurable results was underscored by President and COO Daniel Pinto, who recently raised estimates of AI-related returns from $1.5 billion to nearly $2 billion. Over the past year, JPMorganChase has also expanded its in-house LLM Suite, providing employees with tools for summarisation, content creation, and workflow automation.

Capital One, meanwhile, continues to close the gap. Following its acquisition of Discover Financial Services in May, the bank maintained its dominance in AI talent density despite its workforce increasing by around 40%.

Royal Bank of Canada, CommBank, and Morgan Stanley rounded out the top five, while Goldman Sachs re-entered the top ten and Bank of America made its debut appearance.

The top performers improved their scores by an average of seven points, which is twice the rate of the broader index. According to the report, this underscores how rapidly competition is intensifying at the frontier of AI in banking.
