Belfius Bank Simplifies ATM Channel Management through Fintech Partnership

Belfius Bank and Insurance, a Belgian based business with 3.5 million consumers, has been partnering with a fintech firm to deliver a holistic solution for its consumers with a combination of new technology and services.

The bank has implemented Diebold Nixdorf's integrated hardware, software, and managed services to simplify ATM channel management, streamline operations, and optimize consumer experience.

Belfius had stated previously that they are continuing their efforts to meet the needs of customers for digital and mobile banking services. This will help upgrade 650 branches and nearly 2,400 self-service machines.

Security is always a key concern when taking on a project of this scope. The bank’s self service network will be protected from data and cyberthreats through Diebold Nixdorf’s Vynamic Security Suite Software. The company will also provide Belfius with a software driven cash recycler solution that seeks to optimize performance and minimizes cash management costs.

According to Belfius, the focus for the bank is simplification and enhancing user experience without compromising security. Sylvie Busschaert, head of Strategic Projects & Branch Transformation at Belfius,  previously said:  "Our goal was to simplify the end-to-end management of our self-service network while continuing to provide all our consumers with the first-rate service they expect from us." The mobile banking strategy of the second largest Belgian-based financial institution was the catalyst for the decision.

“Diebold Nixdorf was selected as our preferred partner as its comprehensive solution for the upgrade of our services, hardware, software and branches best fit our needs, all the while supporting us in delivering our digital and mobile banking strategy,"  Busschaert said. Belfius had already been working with Diebold Nixdorf, but the new initiative has helped grow the fintech firm’s footprint at the bank.

Neil Emerson, senior vice president and managing director, Banking Eurasia, at Diebold Nixdorf  said:  “Our leading technology, expertise and delivery makes us a strong partner to help the bank provide the optimal in-branch experience that consumers expect."

While many of the upgrades throughout Belgium at Belfius branches and terminals started last month, the bank and insurance company expects the entire project to be completed sometime in 2020.
