Pinnacle Completes Merger with Synovus to Create $117bn Bank

Georgia-based Pinnacle has completed its merger with Synovus, creating one of the largest banking groups in the southeast as the combined firm positions itself for accelerated growth.

Following the completion of the bank holding company merger, Pinnacle Bank became a member bank of the Federal Reserve System, while Synovus Bank merged into Pinnacle Bank, which remains the surviving entity.

The combined bank will operate under both the Pinnacle and Synovus brands in the near term, before consolidating fully under the Pinnacle brand in early 2027.

On a pro forma basis, the newly combined bank holding company has estimated assets of $117.2 billion, deposits of $95.7 billion, and loans of $80.4 billion.

The group now operates more than 400 locations across nine states throughout the Southeast and Atlantic coast, alongside a range of banking specialties with nationwide reach.

The headquarters of the combined holding company will be based in Atlanta, Georgia, while the combined bank will be headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee.

The firm said the merger brings together Pinnacle’s intensive recruiting model and relationship-driven banking culture with Synovus’ depth of talent and operational capabilities.

Governance of the combined group reflects that balance, with Pinnacle board chair Terry Turner joined by seven directors from legacy Pinnacle and seven from Synovus. Rob McCabe will serve as chief banking officer, leading all bank teams under the Pinnacle operating model.

Kevin Blair, president and CEO of Pinnacle Financial Partners, said: "By bringing our organizations together, we gain scale while staying true to what matters most—creating long-term, trusted relationships. This merger is about growth with purpose, combining strength and heart to deliver scale with a soul."
