Bank Regulator Hack Raises Security Concerns

The OCC (Office of the Comptroller of the Currency) was hacked in 2023, with more than 100 banking regulators being spied on for at least a year.
As first reported by Bloomberg, the hackers were able to read messages with sensitive details about the United States banks it oversees.
The OCC has stated that the email accounts that were affected were disabled. The breach included more than 150,000 emails from June 2023.
The Office oversees all national banks and federal branches of foreign banks under the United States Treasury Department.
The report raises even more concerns about ways hackers can obtain sensitive information indirectly from banks, in this case, by government entities that oversee and potentially regulate them.
